Annual competition recognizes universities and colleges for outstanding app development in innovation, design, UX, and student engagement.
Modo Labs published the winning campus apps in the 5th annual Modo Appademy Awards on November 03, 2022. This juried event recognizes colleges and universities that have built exemplary digital experiences in apps built with Modo Campus, Modo's no-code app platform, press release said.
Modo Labs is a creator of the leading no-code app building platform for higher education and enterprise.
"Now in its fifth year, the Appademy Awards recognizes the innovativeness and creativity of campuses using the Modo platform, as well as reveals how higher ed institutions are expanding their digital engagement with students," said Matt Willmore, senior director of product management at Modo. "This year's entries reflect how college apps are becoming a one-stop platform for students to access all the tools, information, and services they use daily, with features to make school life easier."
"Each year's freshman class contains more digital natives who want and expect greater capabilities from a campus app. It's exciting to see app development teams leverage more of Modo's built-in integrations to make their campus apps more handy and engaging to these students," added Willmore. "The use of personalized messaging, alerts, and digital wayfinding is also growing as a means to empower student to succeed."
The 2022 Appademy Awards include one overall Most Innovative App and two segments for student engagement and app design. Entries came from schools across the United States and Mexico.

Best Apps for Student Engagement:
• Best Health and Wellness – Winner: Vassar College
• Best Recruiting and Admissions – Winner: University of California, Merced
• Best Commencement – Winner: New York University
• Best New Student Orientation – Winner: Northern Arizona University
• Most Innovative App for Communication – Winner: Harding University
Best Apps for Design and Experience:
• Best Overall Design – Winner: Florida Atlantic University
• Best Student-Driven – Winner: Illinois College
• Best Personalization (Xmodule) – Winner: Old Dominion University
• Best Desktop Experience – Winner: Penn State University
Patricia Allenbaugh, senior user experience analyst at Northern Arizona University, which won for Best New Student Orientation and Most Innovative app, said she felt that strong student input in their app's content and design and new integrations helped make it an integral part of student life.
"We're thrilled that NAUgo has been recognized this year with two 2022 Appademy Awards! Here, the entire life of the app is driven by students, from ideas for what to include, to the content, to the design, development, and testing. This level of involvement ensures our app meets the needs of our students throughout their NAU journey. The Modo platform has helped us integrate more features, such as a digital student ID and class schedules, in response to student feedback. I'm excited for what we will develop next."
Appademy Award winning designs and "plays" serve as leading practice examples and models for other institutions around the world including the more than 300 using the Modo no-code platform.
