Tech Giants Fuel Robot Inspector Invasion: $7.2 Billion AI Boom
Discover how AI-powered machine vision is revolutionizing manufacturing and reaching a staggering $7.2 billion by 2028.

Forget human error – robots are taking over quality control! Fueled by artificial intelligence (AI), the machine vision (MV) market is set to explode, reaching a staggering $7.2 billion by 2028, according to a new report from ABI Research. This surge is driven by a perfect storm of stricter regulations, innovative manufacturing techniques, and a crippling labor shortage.

AI acts as the secret weapon, boosting inspection speeds, pushing quality control upstream, and adapting far better than traditional software. But hold on, not everything is sunshine and robots. Explainability, or AI's ability to "show its work," remains a major hurdle, especially in heavily regulated industries.

"Without explainability, AI adoption could hit a wall," warns James Prestwood, Industrial and Manufacturing Industry Analyst at ABI Research. "Though some vendors, like Neurala, are making strides in explainable AI, it's not a universal feature yet."

The MV landscape is a bustling bazaar, with vendors specializing in everything from top-notch components (Neurala, Intel, Google, Landing AI, Instrumental) to comprehensive end-to-end solutions (Aqrose Technology, Cognex, Basler, Keyence, SICK, Omron, Elementary Robotics). Choosing the right solution boils down to budget and complexity.

"Smaller manufacturers will likely favor off-the-shelf options for their affordability and ease of implementation," says Prestwood. "For larger players, however, building their own systems with best-of-breed components might be the more cost-effective route."

These insights come from ABI Research's "Industrial Machine Vision Systems: Innovations, Key Players, and Differentiators Driving Quality Management Excellence" report.
