Houston-based Avelo Airlines is set to launch a new route connecting Texas to the Northeast. Starting June 14th, the carrier will offer twice-weekly nonstop service between William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), Connecticut's most convenient airport.
This move signifies Avelo's continued focus on underserved markets. The airline, established in 2018, has carved a niche by offering low fares and a focus on smaller airports, bypassing congested hubs. Avelo currently serves 50 destinations across the United States, Puerto Rico, with a fleet of 16 Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft.
Avelo promises a streamlined travel experience, distinguishing itself with customer-friendly policies. Free in-flight changes and cancellations, automatic complimentary seat assignments for children travelling with adults, and a variety of add-on options for seat selection, checked baggage, and in-cabin pets cater to budget-conscious travelers seeking flexibility.
Furthermore, Avelo boasts an impressive record for on-time performance, ranking second in the U.S. for reliability in 2023 (based on Anuvu data). This focus on operational efficiency will likely resonate with time-sensitive business and leisure travelers alike.
Tweed-New Haven: A Gateway to New England
The selection of Tweed-New Haven Airport provides a strategic advantage. Located near major highways and rail networks, it offers a convenient alternative to busier airports in the region. Passengers flying into Tweed-New Haven can easily access not only Connecticut but also neighboring New York City and the wider New England region. New Haven itself, home to Yale University, offers a vibrant cultural scene and diverse dining options.
This new route marks another milestone in Avelo's rapid expansion. Since its launch in April 2021, the airline has flown over 4.2 million passengers and continues to add new destinations. Avelo's focus on underserved communities and smaller airports is disrupting the traditional airline model, offering travelers a more convenient and potentially cost-effective travel experience.
