New York:
IBM announced today a $45 million commitment to support climate adaptation efforts, with a focus on building resilient cities. This initiative includes a new request for proposals (RFP) through the IBM Sustainability Accelerator program, seeking projects from governments and non-profits that leverage technology to improve urban resilience.
The announcement aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11), which aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. As the world continues to urbanize, cities face increasing challenges from climate change, including rising emissions, extreme weather events, and environmental injustice.
"We're proud to build on the success of the IBM Sustainability Accelerator by increasing our investment and impact," said Justina Nixon-Saintil, IBM Vice President and Chief Impact Officer. "We look forward to partnering with cities to deploy AI-powered solutions and build a more resilient future."
This year, IBM is collaborating with EY to enhance the program and support participating organizations. EY will provide guidance during the RFP selection process, offer coaching, and host capacity-building workshops.
Eligible non-profit and government organizations can apply to the RFP starting today through April 30, 2024. Selected participants will be announced later this year.
