The recent successful search for the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his delegation showcased the remarkable capabilities of Turkiye's Akinci drone. This high-altitude, long-endurance drone, produced by Baykar since 2019, proved to be a game-changer in a challenging search-and-rescue operation in Iran's East Azerbaijan province.

The Akinci drone stands out for its ability to operate at altitudes of up to 40,000 feet. This high-altitude flight capability allows it to cover vast areas, making it an invaluable tool in search-and-rescue missions, especially in rugged and hard-to-reach terrains.

Endurance and Range

One of the most significant features of the Akinci drone is its endurance. It can remain airborne for more than 24 hours, ensuring continuous surveillance and extensive coverage without the need for frequent returns to base for refueling. This long-endurance capability was crucial in the search for President Raisi's helicopter, allowing the drone to maintain a persistent presence in the search area.

The Akinci is equipped with advanced thermal imaging technology and night vision capabilities, enabling it to operate effectively in adverse weather conditions, including dense fog and rain. This feature was particularly important during the search for the helicopter, which was hampered by severe weather that grounded other aircraft.

Real-Time Data Sharing

During the search operation, the Akinci drone provided real-time data and images to Iranian officials. At 2:22 am, it reported its first heat source, instantly sharing the critical information that led to the successful discovery of the helicopter's wreckage. This capability of immediate data transmission ensures that rescue teams can act swiftly based on accurate and timely information.

After completing its mission, the Akinci returned to Turkiye, symbolically drawing a crescent and star over Van Lake on flight radar. This gesture highlighted not only the drone's advanced navigation systems but also Turkey's technological prowess and solidarity.

The Akinci drone's high-altitude, long-endurance flight capabilities, advanced thermal and night vision technology, and real-time data sharing were instrumental in the successful search-and-rescue operation for President Ebrahim Raisi's helicopter.

This mission underscored the critical role of cutting-edge drone technology in emergency response scenarios, demonstrating how the Akinci's features can overcome severe weather challenges and ensure effective and timely rescue efforts.
