Munich, Germany, August 3, 2024:
BMW has announced ambitious plans to construct five battery assembly plants across three continents to support its upcoming Neue Klasse electric vehicle platform. These facilities will be located in the United States, Germany, Hungary, China, and Mexico.
The automaker aims to produce its sixth-generation, high-voltage batteries at these plants, which will power a new generation of electric vehicles with significantly improved range, charging speed, and energy density. The first Neue Klasse models, an SUV and a sedan, are scheduled for launch in 2025.
By establishing battery production closer to its vehicle assembly plants, BMW seeks to enhance supply chain resilience and efficiency. The company has already initiated construction in several locations, with the first Neue Klasse vehicles set to roll off the production line in Debrecen, Hungary, in 2025.
This strategic investment underscores BMW's commitment to electrifying its product lineup and solidifying its position as a global leader in sustainable mobility.
