August 12, 2024:
In a move that promises to revolutionize desktop browsing, Google is set to introduce its popular Android feature, 'Drag to Search', to the Chrome browser. This innovative tool, previously known as 'Circle to Search', allows users to seamlessly search for information directly from any webpage without the need to open a new tab or window.
Currently under development for ChromeOS 127 and Chrome beta, the feature is expected to be available to all Chrome users in the near future. Chromebooks will have the 'Drag to Search' option conveniently located next to the Google Lens icon in the address bar, while Windows and Mac users will find it in an overflow menu.
To use the feature, simply click and drag any element on a webpage – a word, image, or even a section of text. A search box will appear on the side of the screen, displaying relevant results from Google Search. Users can then refine their search or explore related topics without leaving the current page. For those who frequently use this tool, there's an option to pin the 'Search with Google Lens' icon to the toolbar for quick access.
This new functionality is expected to significantly enhance user experience by streamlining the search process and allowing for more focused browsing. By eliminating the need to switch between tabs or copy and paste information, users can save time and increase productivity.
Google's decision to bring 'Drag to Search' to the desktop is a testament to the feature's popularity and utility. It is anticipated that this addition will further solidify Chrome's position as the leading web browser and set a new standard for user-friendly browsing experiences.
