This innovative tool visually represents the extraordinary capabilities of the human visual system, drawing parallels between our eyes and the latest technological advancements.
The Eye Deserve More campaign, of which The Eye is a cornerstone, underscores the necessity of prioritizing eye health as much as we do our technological devices. "With the constant exposure to screens, it's imperative to prioritize eye health," said Belinda R. Starkey, O.D., and member of the AOA Board of Trustees. "Our eyes are essential for our overall well-being, and they deserve the same attention we give to our other valuable possessions."
The Eye is meticulously designed to showcase the remarkable functions of the human eye. It features a series of interactive elements that visually represent the eye's ability to:
Process billions of pathways: Similar to the complex circuitry of a computer, the eye processes an incredible amount of visual information, enabling us to perceive the world around us.
Recall familiar images: The eye's memory is astonishing. It can instantly recognize and recall familiar images, even after years of not seeing them.
Detect health conditions: When paired with a comprehensive eye exam by an AOA doctor of optometry, the eye can serve as an early warning system for over 270 health conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and even certain types of cancer.
The Eye's immersive experience is designed to educate and inspire. Visitors to the AOA's pop-up event in New York City from August 23-25 will have the opportunity to interact with The Eye and gain a deeper appreciation for the extraordinary capabilities of their own eyes.
