Redditch, England – August 31, 2024:

Robotic surgery is proving to be a game-changer for women suffering from a variety of gynaecological conditions at the Alexandra Hospital. Surgeons at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust have successfully performed over 100 robotic-assisted surgeries, offering patients greater precision, reduced pain, and a lower risk of complications.

The Da Vinci Xi robot, introduced in 2022, has been used to treat conditions such as endometriosis, heavy menstrual bleeding, fibroids, and gynaecological cancers. The technology provides surgeons with a 3D, highly-magnified view of the operating area, allowing for greater precision and control.

One of the most significant benefits of robotic surgery is the potential for reduced post-operative pain and complications. Many patients undergoing robotic hysterectomy or endometriosis removal have been able to go home on the same day, and there have been no instances of needing to switch to open surgery.

Gretchen Lach, a patient who underwent robotic surgery for endometriosis, praised the experience, saying, "After my surgery my quality of life is improving daily...Before surgery I had debilitating pain every day...Now I am able to do most of the things I need and want to do."

Consultant Gynaecologist Miss Donna Ghosh expressed her satisfaction with the results, stating, "We have now performed over 100 gynaecological robotic surgery cases which is a huge achievement to the benefit of our patients."

As the number of trained surgeons increases, the Alexandra Hospital anticipates expanding robotic surgery to other clinical specialities, further benefiting patients in the region.
