Toronto, Canada – August 31, 2024:

Samsung Electronics Canada has issued a widespread recall of over 300,000 electric slide-in ranges due to a significant fire hazard. The recall, announced by Health Canada, was prompted by numerous reports of accidental activations of the front-mounted knobs, which can lead to dangerous fires.

The affected models were sold between 2013 and August 2024, and approximately 326,250 units are estimated to be in Canadian homes. The recall comes after 57 incidents and seven injuries were reported to Samsung related to these faulty stoves.

To mitigate the risk, Samsung is providing customers with free knob locks or covers, designed to prevent accidental activation. While customers can continue using their stoves during the recall process, Health Canada has issued safety guidelines, including keeping children and pets away from the knobs, avoiding leaving objects on the range, and turning off the knobs before leaving home or going to sleep. For those with Wi-Fi-enabled models, the Samsung SmartThings app can be used to receive alerts when a cooktop burner is turned on.

The recall highlights the importance of product safety and the need for manufacturers to promptly address potential hazards. Samsung's proactive response in providing free safety measures demonstrates their commitment to consumer safety.

Consumers who have the recalled stoves are urged to visit Samsung Canada's website to request a free knob kit and to follow the safety guidelines provided by Health Canada. By taking these steps, consumers can help prevent accidents and ensure the safety of themselves and their families.
