EatCloud's innovative platform uses artificial intelligence to connect businesses with food banks, helping to address the issue of food insecurity in Mexico.
Aguascalientes, Mexico – September 10, 2024:
Colombian company EatCloud has announced a significant investment of MX$40 million (US$2 million) to establish a digital platform in Aguascalientes aimed at redistributing surplus food. The initiative, in partnership with the Mexican Food Banks Network (BAMX), seeks to address the pressing issue of food waste and support vulnerable communities across Mexico.
Aguascalientes Governor Tere Jiménez expressed her enthusiasm for the investment, highlighting its potential to reduce food insecurity, create economic opportunities, and protect the environment. "We are grateful to EatCloud for choosing Aguascalientes as a hub for this important work," she said.
EatCloud's innovative approach utilizes artificial intelligence to connect supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, and agribusinesses with food banks. By rescuing unsold or unconsumed products, the platform aims to redirect a substantial amount of food to those in need.
According to Jorge Correa, CEO of EatCloud, Aguascalientes alone could potentially redirect up to 225,000 tons of food waste annually. This redistribution would not only alleviate hunger but also mitigate environmental impact by preventing the release of harmful greenhouse gases.
Claudia GarcÃa, BAMX's National Director of Strategic Alliances and Social Investment, emphasized the importance of the partnership with EatCloud. "Together, we are using technology and logistics to support over 2.5 million Mexicans facing food insecurity," she said.
