Washington, USA – September 14, 2024:
The U.S. Department of State recently hosted the Digital Innovations for Female Entrepreneurs in ASEAN (DIFEM) meeting in Vientiane, Lao PDR. This event, a part of the U.S.-ASEAN Connect Digital Economy Series, aimed to support Lao PDR's efforts to address financial gaps among micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and promote the adoption of digital trade standards within the ASEAN region.
Over two days, the DIFEM event brought together 75 digital economy entrepreneurs from ASEAN MSMEs to engage with private sector technology companies, government officials, and other entrepreneurs. The focus was on exploring the potential of business optimization and commercial collaboration through digital innovations.
Leading experts from the private sector conducted workshops on funding opportunities for startups and the application of generative AI and digital tools to enhance business efficiency and market reach. Participants also had the chance to receive one-on-one consultations with experts through design sprint activities, allowing them to discuss specific business challenges and seek tailored advice.
A key highlight of the DIFEM event was its emphasis on empowering women entrepreneurs. The meeting featured sessions on "Making Digital Space for Women in Fintech" and "Mentorship and Collaborative Leadership Interviews" with women leaders in the public and private sector, including the U.S. Ambassador to Lao PDR, Heather Variava.
The DIFEM meeting underscores the U.S. commitment to fostering digital innovation and entrepreneurship in the ASEAN region. By providing opportunities for knowledge sharing, networking, and mentorship, the event contributes to the region's economic growth and development.
