The Global AI Summit (GAIN) in Riyadh concluded with a resounding call for global action to ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) is developed and used for the benefit of humanity. The summit, organized by the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), brought together over 30,000 delegates from around the world to discuss the future of AI.
One of the key outcomes of the summit was the need for governments and policymakers to establish ethical frameworks and robust governance for AI development. In response, SDAIA announced the Riyadh Charter of Artificial Intelligence for the Islamic World, which promotes ethical AI grounded in Islamic values and principles.
The summit also saw the launch of several initiatives aimed at advancing AI ethics and governance, including the Global AI Community, the THAKAI Platform, and guidelines for addressing deepfake technology. Additionally, the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) launched a Generative AI Center of Excellence, and UNESCO announced the establishment of an International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE).
Beyond these initiatives, GAIN 2024 showcased the latest AI technologies and innovations from companies around the world. From AI-generated avatars and artwork to robotic bar staff, the summit provided a glimpse into the future of AI.
