Paris, France –September 27, 2024:

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has facilitated a week-long study visit to Paris for representatives from Türkiye's Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the ILO Office for Türkiye. The visit, which took place from September 16 to 21, 2023, was part of the EU-funded project "Elimination of Child Labour in Seasonal Agriculture."

During the visit, participants from Türkiye and France exchanged experiences and best practices on addressing child labor and formalizing the agricultural workforce. The discussions focused on regulations, practical measures, and strategies for eliminating child labor in the agricultural sector.

France, a major player in global agriculture and a host country for seasonal migrant workers, offered valuable insights into its approach to addressing these issues. Türkiye, recently designated as a Pathfinder country within Alliance 8.7, has also made significant strides in combating child labor.

The study visit included meetings with key stakeholders from the French government, labor unions, and the private sector. These discussions provided opportunities for in-depth dialogue on the challenges and potential solutions related to child labor and agricultural labor formalization.

The ILO Office for Türkiye, in partnership with the ILO Office for France, played a crucial role in organizing and facilitating the study visit. This initiative reflects the ILO's commitment to supporting global efforts to eliminate child labor and promote decent work for all.

The knowledge and strategies gained during the study visit are expected to inform policy reforms in Türkiye and contribute to the ongoing efforts to eliminate child labor in the agricultural sector. The reinforced partnership between Türkiye and France also sets a positive example for international collaboration on this important issue.
