Lafayette, CA – September 24, 2024:

On November 5th, 2024, Lafayette residents will have the opportunity to vote on Measure H, a proposed ½-cent increase in the city's sales tax for a period of seven years. If approved, the measure would generate approximately $2.4 million annually for essential city services.

A key provision of Measure H is the establishment of a Citizen's Oversight Committee. This five-member committee, appointed by the City Council, would be tasked with monitoring the use of the sales tax revenue. The committee's oversight would provide transparency and accountability to the public.

The proposed sales tax increase would go directly into the City of Lafayette's General Fund to support various city services. These include maintaining public infrastructure, funding wildfire preparedness, preserving police officer levels, providing senior citizen services, maintaining public spaces, improving traffic safety, and supporting community partners.

The City is currently facing a significant structural deficit, and the passage of Measure H is crucial to avoid potential cuts or discontinuation of city programs and services.

As the election date approaches, Lafayette residents are urged to carefully consider the implications of Measure H and its potential impact on the city's future.
