Beirut, Lebanon - September 09, 2024:

A Lebanese man has successfully converted a vintage 1967 Renault 8 into a modern electric vehicle. Abbas Khazzal, a car enthusiast from Nabatieh, southern Lebanon, was inspired by the country's recent fuel crisis to undertake this ambitious project.

Khazzal's decision to revitalize his father's classic car was driven by the need for a reliable and efficient mode of transportation during a time of fuel shortages. He began by working on the engine, followed by a comprehensive overhaul of the car's parts and components. Despite facing challenges in sourcing raw materials from abroad, Khazzal persevered and transformed the vintage Renault 8 into a fully electric vehicle.

The converted car boasts impressive features, including an internal electronic system, electric windows, and a battery capacity of 14 kw. Its 15kW electric motor can generate 100 NM with peak power 25 kW, allowing it to travel up to 200 kilometers on a single charge.

Khazzal's achievement is a testament to the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the Lebanese people, who have faced numerous challenges in recent years. The fuel crisis, coupled with widespread electricity rationing, has had a profound impact on daily life in Lebanon. By converting a vintage car into an electric vehicle, Khazzal has not only provided himself with a sustainable and efficient mode of transportation but has also demonstrated the potential for innovative solutions to address the country's pressing energy challenges.
