A new Kwanzaa stamp has been unveiled by the USPS, marking the 10th anniversary of the organization issuing stamps to commemorate the holiday. The stamp is a Forever stamp and features a design inspired by a live performance by dancers from OrigiNation Cultural Arts Center.
Pittsburgh, PA USA – September 26, 2024:
The United States Postal Service (USPS) today unveiled a new stamp design commemorating Kwanzaa, a Pan-African American holiday celebrating community, self-determination, and collective responsibility. The stamp, designed by artist Ekua Holmes, features three young dancers performing in traditional attire, reflecting the vibrant colors and cultural richness of Kwanzaa.
The ceremony, held in partnership with the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), marked the 10th anniversary of the USPS issuing a Kwanzaa stamp. The stamp is a Forever stamp, meaning it will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price.
"The issuance of this Kwanzaa stamp is a powerful symbol of the enduring principles of the holiday," said Roderick Sallay, USPS director of legislative policy and strategy development. "By placing these values on a stamp, we affirm their universal relevance and their potential to enrich our daily lives."
The Kwanzaa stamp is a testament to the USPS' commitment to honoring diverse cultures and traditions. By recognizing Kwanzaa, the USPS is not only celebrating African American heritage but also promoting unity and understanding among all Americans.
