Dubai, UAE – October 5, 2024:

In a move aimed at enhancing aviation security amid regional tensions, Emirates Airlines has announced a ban on pagers and walkie-talkies on all its flights. The prohibition applies to both checked and cabin baggage, with items found in possession of passengers subject to confiscation by Dubai Police.

The ban comes in the wake of recent attacks on communication devices in the Middle East, including a mass assault on Hezbollah's communication equipment in Lebanon. Following this incident, Lebanon's Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport implemented a similar ban on pagers and walkie-talkies for all flights.

Emirates' decision aligns with the broader security measures being implemented by airlines operating in the region. Given the ongoing unrest in several countries, including Iraq, Iran, and Jordan, the airline has also suspended regular flights to and from these destinations. While flights to Iran, Iraq, Israel, and Jordan have resumed via flydubai, Emirates' services to these countries remain suspended until October 5.

The ban on pagers and walkie-talkies underscores the heightened vigilance and security protocols being adopted by airlines to protect passengers and aircraft. As the situation in the Middle East continues to evolve, it is likely that other carriers may follow suit in implementing similar restrictions.
