Dubai, UAE --- October 16, 2024:

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has taken a significant step towards expanding electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in the city by issuing the first two Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO) licenses to Tesla and UAEV. The announcement was made during GITEX Global 2024.

This move is a testament to Dubai's commitment to sustainable transportation and its efforts to reduce carbon emissions. By granting CPO licenses, DEWA is encouraging private sector investment in EV charging infrastructure, which will ultimately lead to a wider network of charging stations and greater convenience for EV owners.

Tesla, a global leader in electric vehicles, has already established a strong presence in Dubai with its showrooms and service centers. The CPO license will enable Tesla to further expand its EV charging network, providing its customers with convenient and reliable charging options.

UAEV, a local company, is also poised to play a key role in the development of Dubai's EV charging infrastructure. As a domestic player, UAEV has a deep understanding of the local market and can tailor its offerings to meet the specific needs of Dubai's EV drivers.

The issuance of CPO licenses is expected to stimulate competition and innovation in the EV charging market. By allowing multiple operators to provide charging services, DEWA is fostering a more dynamic and competitive environment that will benefit consumers.

Furthermore, the expansion of EV charging infrastructure will contribute to Dubai's broader sustainability goals. By reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting electric vehicles, Dubai can reduce its carbon footprint and improve air quality.

DEWA's initiative is a testament to the city's forward-thinking approach to sustainable transportation. By creating a favorable environment for EV charging infrastructure, Dubai is positioning itself as a leader in the region and attracting investment in green mobility.

As the number of electric vehicles on Dubai's roads continues to grow, the demand for charging stations will also increase. The CPO licenses granted to Tesla and UAEV are just the beginning of a larger effort to build a comprehensive and reliable EV charging network in the city.
