Equip yourself to make a difference in mental health. Florida Southern College's new PMHNP program prepares skilled nurses to provide compassionate care.
Lakeland, FL, USA – October 26, 2024:
Florida Southern College (FSC) has received approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to launch a Master of Science in Nursing in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program and a Post-Masters Certificate in PMHNP concentration. The program is set to begin in January 2025.
This new program is designed to address the growing demand for mental health professionals. By equipping nurses with advanced knowledge and skills, FSC aims to prepare them to provide comprehensive care for individuals with mental health disorders across the lifespan.
“This achievement reflects the dedication of our faculty in the Ann Blanton Edwards School of Nursing and Health Sciences,” said Dr. Tracey Tedder, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at FSC. “These programs align with our mission to prepare students to make a positive impact on society.”
The PMHNP program will offer a hybrid learning format, combining online coursework with in-person clinical rotations. Students will gain hands-on experience through a variety of clinical placements, working under the guidance of experienced mental health professionals.
Dr. Laly Joseph, Dean of the Ann Blanton Edwards School of Nursing and Health Sciences, expressed enthusiasm about the program’s potential to address the growing mental health crisis. “Our school is committed to preparing competent and compassionate PMHNPs who can make a difference in the lives of individuals experiencing mental health challenges,” she said.
Upon graduation, students will be eligible to sit for the PMHNP certification exam, enabling them to practice as licensed mental health providers.
