New York, NY, USA – October 10, 2024:
The Gerald Loeb Awards, the highest honor in American business journalism, celebrated its 2024 winners at a glittering gala held at the Rainbow Room in New York City. The event, attended by journalists from around the world, recognized outstanding reporting on business, finance, and the economy.
Veteran journalist Diana B. Henriques, a retired senior writer for The New York Times, received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Her decades-long career has been marked by groundbreaking investigations and insightful commentary on a wide range of business topics. Martin Peers, co-executive editor of The Information, was honored with the Minard Editor Award for his exceptional leadership in the field of business journalism.
The ceremony, emceed by CNBC's "Power Lunch" co-anchor Tyler Mathisen, featured a moment of silence for journalists who are currently detained, imprisoned, or have been lost in the line of duty. Antonio Bernardo, Dean of UCLA Anderson School of Management and Chairman of the G. and R. Loeb Foundation, welcomed the honorees and attendees.
Throughout the evening, awards were presented in 12 categories, recognizing outstanding work in areas such as audio reporting, beat reporting, breaking news, commentary, and investigative journalism. The winners included Bloomberg News and Wondery for their audio series "Spellcaster," Reuters for its in-depth investigation "The Musk Industrial Complex," and The Washington Post for its feature "American Icon."
The Loeb Awards are a testament to the power of journalism to inform, educate, and inspire. They recognize the vital role that journalists play in holding corporations accountable, exposing wrongdoing, and providing the public with essential information.
"The Gerald Loeb Awards celebrate journalists whose work sheds light on the complexities of the business world," said Antonio Bernardo. "Tonight, we honor not only the winners, but also the vital role that journalism plays in informing and protecting the public."
