Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA --- October 20, 2024:
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk announced on Saturday that he will award $1 million each day to a person who signs his online petition supporting the U.S. Constitution, continuing until November's election. Musk made good on his promise immediately, handing a $1 million check to John Dreher, a random attendee at a rally in Pennsylvania supporting Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
“John had no idea. So anyway, you’re welcome,” Musk quipped as he presented the check.
The initiative is part of Musk’s growing efforts to influence the upcoming presidential election. Through his America PAC, which backs Trump, Musk has been mobilizing and registering voters in key battleground states like Pennsylvania. Saturday’s event marked Musk’s third rally in the state, where he has framed the election as a pivotal moment for the country’s future, warning that if Democratic candidate Kamala Harris wins, it could be "the last election."
Musk has also made controversial claims, suggesting that recent assassination attempts against Trump signal that he is challenging the status quo in a way Harris would not. He stated, “Assassinating a puppet is worthless,” emphasizing that Harris has not faced the same threats.
The petition Musk is circulating pledges support for the First and Second Amendments, and all rally attendees were required to sign it, helping America PAC build a voter contact database. Musk, who has reportedly contributed $75 million to the PAC, continues to be a major financial force behind Trump’s campaign.
Musk, ranked as the world’s richest person, has recently aligned himself with Republican causes and has become a vocal Trump supporter. In return, Trump has promised to appoint Musk to a government efficiency commission if elected.
Musk’s financial and political engagement is becoming a significant factor in the tight race between Trump and Harris as the election draws closer.
