Espoo, Finland – October 3, 2024:

Nokia has announced a significant breakthrough in WiFi management with the introduction of open standards and protocols into its Corteca software suite. This move positions Nokia as the industry's first platform to adopt prpl LCM, OCI, and TR-369, empowering operators to monetize value-added applications in the broadband home.

The Corteca Home Controller, a central component of the software suite, now supports these open standards, providing operators with a vendor-agnostic solution for managing in-home broadband gateways, Wi-Fi connectivity, and applications. This standardization facilitates seamless interoperability and enables operators to take a consistent approach to installing, uninstalling, and updating applications.

By leveraging open standards, Corteca unlocks new opportunities for operators, allowing them to break free from vendor lock-in, explore new monetization avenues, and deliver enhanced in-home experiences to their subscribers. The Corteca Developer Toolkit empowers third-party software providers and CSPs to create applications based on prpl LCM, further expanding the ecosystem of available applications.

Nokia's platform is built on a highly efficient cloud infrastructure, enabling operators to manage broadband devices, in-home Wi-Fi connectivity, and applications effectively. With the Home Controller, operators can deliver a managed Wi-Fi service across a multi-vendor environment, improving the overall in-home Wi-Fi experience for their subscribers. Additionally, Nokia offers a B2B marketplace where operators can select from a growing catalog of partner applications, covering various use cases such as cybersecurity, online gaming, diagnostics, and work-from-home.

Industry experts have praised Nokia's initiative. Alzbeta Fellenbaum, Principal Analyst at Omdia, noted the increasing need for CSPs to differentiate their services beyond traditional broadband connectivity and highlighted the importance of open standards in enabling CSPs to drive down costs, increase competitiveness, and explore new monetization opportunities.

Tom Gaffney, Director of Embedded Security at F-Secure, emphasized the benefits of partnering with Nokia on containerized applications, citing alignment with open standards and the reduced time and effort required to bring software to broadband devices and connected homes.

The prpl LCM, OCI, and TR-369 standards play crucial roles in the Corteca solution. prpl LCM provides a platform-independent software for managing value-added applications, while TR-369 ensures consistent and reliable management across devices and services. OCI standardizes container formats and runtimes, enabling seamless integration and deployment of applications.

Nokia's Corteca software suite, built on these open standards, empowers operators to deliver a more flexible, efficient, and personalized broadband experience to their subscribers. By embracing open innovation, Nokia is driving the evolution of WiFi management and unlocking new possibilities for the industry.
