Seoul, South Korea – October 15, 2024:
Samsung Electronics and KT Corporation have been selected to deploy a Private 5G network for the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy's Smart Naval Port project. This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant milestone in enhancing the Navy's national security and operational capabilities through advanced technology.
The Private 5G network will provide a robust and secure communication infrastructure, enabling seamless connectivity and improved efficiency for the Navy's battleship and base operations. By leveraging Samsung's cutting-edge 5G technology and KT's expertise in network deployment, the project aims to establish a comprehensive Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure that supports a wide range of defense-related applications.
A 3D digital replica of the naval base, providing a virtual environment for planning, simulation, and optimization of operations. Real-time video surveillance, drone monitoring, and automated emergency response systems to enhance security and situational awareness.
A comprehensive system integrating navigation, logistics, safety, and monitoring to streamline administrative tasks and improve operational efficiency.
"This project will lay the foundation for the Smart Naval Port, revolutionizing the way we support battleship and naval base operations," said Jun-Ho Kim, Senior Vice President at KT Enterprise. "By harnessing the power of 5G technology, we can enhance efficiency, improve decision-making, and ensure the highest level of security."
Robust security measures to protect sensitive military data and ensure network integrity. High reliability and availability to support critical operations and minimize downtime. The ability to adapt to evolving requirements and accommodate future growth.
Samsung's extensive experience in deploying Private 5G networks in various sectors, including hospitals, universities, construction sites, and government agencies.
"We are excited to deploy Korea's first Private 5G at a Naval base," said Simon Lee, Vice President at Samsung Electronics. "This project demonstrates our commitment to leveraging 5G technology to meet the unique needs of our customers, including the defense sector."
The project is expected to be completed by December 2025, and will serve as a model for future deployments of Private 5G networks in the defense sector. By harnessing the power of 5G, the ROK Navy will be able to enhance its operational capabilities, improve decision-making, and strengthen its national security.
