Islamabad, Pakistan, October 12, 2024:

Zong, one of Pakistan's leading mobile operators, experienced significant service disruptions on Thursday due to the installation of a new web management system (WMS). Users in multiple cities reported connectivity issues, including service degradation and complete blackouts.

Although there was no official statement from the company or the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Zong acknowledged the disruptions on social media. The most severe outages were reported in Karachi, where no security-related jamming has been observed.

The company attributed the issue to the installation and testing of the content filtration system, which is in its final phase. A PTA official confirmed that a content filtration system or firewall is being upgraded to protect against cyberattacks and will be completed by the end of October.

Authorities have also warned of potential service disruptions in Islamabad and certain districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to security concerns related to the upcoming SCO meeting and the planned Jirga by the banned Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement. However, these disruptions are expected to be temporary, and normal service is anticipated to resume by the end of next week.

The service disruptions caused inconvenience to Zong's customers, including corporate clients. The company apologized for the inconvenience and assured users that their services had been restored to normal.
