Peoria, Illinois, USA – November 7, 2024:

Caterpillar Inc. announced a significant milestone in the evolution of autonomous technology with the successful deployment of its fully autonomous Cat 777 off-highway truck at Luck Stone’s Bull Run plant in Chantilly, Virginia. This achievement marks a major step forward in Caterpillar’s commitment to delivering autonomous hauling solutions to the quarry and aggregates industry.

The collaboration between Caterpillar and Luck Stone, a leading producer of crushed stone, sand, and gravel, has been instrumental in accelerating the development of autonomous technology for quarry applications. By leveraging Caterpillar’s expertise in autonomous mining solutions and Luck Stone’s deep understanding of quarry operations, the two companies have successfully integrated autonomous technology into a real-world setting.

The Cat 777 autonomous truck, a 100-ton class machine, is the latest addition to Caterpillar’s growing fleet of autonomous vehicles. With a proven track record of success in mining operations, Caterpillar’s autonomous trucks have collectively traveled millions of miles and moved billions of tons of material.

“This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teams at Caterpillar and Luck Stone,” said Denise Johnson, Group President of Caterpillar’s Resource Industries. “By working together, we are driving innovation and creating a safer, more efficient future for the mining industry.”

The successful deployment of the autonomous Cat 777 at Bull Run plant is just the beginning. Caterpillar and Luck Stone are committed to further refining and expanding the capabilities of autonomous technology, with the goal of making it a standard solution for the quarry and aggregates industry.

“We are excited to be at the forefront of this technological revolution,” said Charlie Luck, Chairman and CEO of Luck Companies. “By embracing autonomous technology, we are improving safety, enhancing efficiency, and positioning ourselves for long-term success.”
