Budapest, Hungary - November 6, 2024:

Volta Energy Solutions Hungary (VESH) has initiated steps to obtain The Copper Mark, a prestigious assurance framework recognized globally within the copper industry for stringent environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. This move aligns with the company’s broader ESG goals and reflects the increasing demand for sustainable practices in the copper and battery materials sector, particularly within Europe.

Established in 2019, The Copper Mark sets a high bar for ethical and sustainable operations across the copper supply chain, from ore mining to end-product sales. Its evaluation framework is comprehensive, covering environmental protection, human rights, and ethical management. Endorsement by The Copper Mark signifies a company’s adherence to these standards and opens access to benefits like inclusion in the "LME-Approved Brands" list. This list, maintained by the London Metal Exchange (LME), indicates to global markets that listed companies follow responsible sourcing practices, fostering trust and expanding market opportunities. Currently, over 360 brands across 55 countries are certified under the framework for various metals.

Operating copper foil and battery copper foil plants in Europe, including in Hungary, VESH's commitment to securing The Copper Mark underscores its role in enhancing regional supply chain stability and responsibility. With Europe's tightening regulatory framework on ESG practices, attaining this certification would enhance VESH’s reputation as a sustainable, reliable supplier—a key competitive advantage. Given the push within the EU for responsible sourcing and ESG adherence across industries, VESH’s pursuit of the certification places it well to meet the expectations of customers, stakeholders, and regulators alike.

CEO Kwak Keun-man has emphasized that VESH’s efforts to secure The Copper Mark align with the company's strategy of long-term sustainable growth. Beyond responsible sourcing, VESH is addressing various ESG dimensions, such as human rights in the supply chain and avoidance of conflict minerals. These initiatives, particularly relevant to a multinational operating in various regulatory environments, signal the company’s broader commitment to community welfare and legal compliance.

Securing The Copper Mark could help VESH strengthen relationships with global customers who increasingly prioritize ESG credentials in their suppliers. This initiative not only aligns with regulatory trends but also bolsters VESH's reputation as an ethical leader in the copper supply chain, allowing it to expand within markets that value high ESG standards.

In an era of heightened ESG accountability, Volta Energy Solutions Hungary's pursuit of The Copper Mark is a strategic move that can elevate its market position, fulfill global regulatory expectations, and contribute to a more sustainable supply chain. As companies and consumers alike prioritize ESG integrity, VESH’s actions are likely to strengthen both its market appeal and its operational resilience.
