Washington, USA --- December 13, 2024:
Amazon has confirmed it will donate $1 million to the inaugural fund of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and will stream the event on its Prime Video service, an Amazon spokesperson announced Thursday. The company’s support includes an in-kind contribution, valued at an additional $1 million, for the live broadcast of the inauguration on Prime Video.
Amazon's donation adds to the growing list of contributions from major tech companies. Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, has also pledged $1 million to the inaugural fund, a spokesperson revealed.
In a related development, Amazon founder and executive chairman Jeff Bezos is scheduled to meet with President-elect Trump next week, according to Trump’s Thursday interview with CNBC. Despite previous tensions between Trump and Bezos, particularly over the coverage of Trump's presidency by The Washington Post—which is owned by Bezos—the meeting is set to take place. Trump has criticized the Post’s reporting, but Bezos has defended the newspaper’s editorial stance, including its decision not to endorse a candidate in the 2020 election, which he argued was necessary to maintain journalistic integrity.
Trump’s 2017 inauguration raised a record $106.7 million, and his team is expected to raise a comparable amount for the upcoming event.
The donations from Amazon and Meta underscore the growing involvement of tech giants in U.S. political affairs, highlighting the influential role these companies continue to play in shaping major national events.
