Dhaka, Bangladesh – December 9, 2024:
A recent seminar at Bangladesh University highlighted the escalating cyber security risks facing the nation. Experts emphasized the urgent need for both individual and governmental efforts to combat these threats.
The seminar, organized by the university's CSE department, brought together industry leaders and academicians to discuss the latest cyber security trends. The seminar highlighted several key points regarding cyber security in Bangladesh. Firstly, the rapid growth of internet users, surpassing 70 million, makes the country increasingly susceptible to cyberattacks.
Secondly, the borderless nature of the internet poses a global threat, as cybercriminals can operate from anywhere in the world. Thirdly, cyberattacks are not limited to tech-savvy individuals; even less tech-savvy groups, such as farmers, are becoming targets. Lastly, the seminar emphasized the shared responsibility of both the government and individuals in strengthening cyber defenses.
Manirul Islam, Chairman of the CSE Department at AIUB, stressed the importance of public awareness. He warned that cybercriminals are exploiting vulnerabilities in individuals and organizations alike.
Delwar Alam, Managing Director of BugsBD Limited, echoed this sentiment, urging individuals to exercise caution when using technology. He highlighted the need for strong cybersecurity practices to protect sensitive information.
Mahbubul Haque, Registrar of Bangladesh University, provided a real-world example of how cybercriminals can target even the most unsuspecting individuals. He emphasized the importance of education and training to combat these threats.
The seminar concluded with a quiz competition to further engage participants and promote cybersecurity knowledge. As Bangladesh continues its digital journey, addressing cyber security challenges will be crucial to ensure a safe and secure online environment.
