Istanbul, Turkiye - December 14, 2024:
Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Atta Ullah Tarar, has called for the development of an ethical framework to guide the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Speaking at the International Strategic Communication Summit 2024 (Stratcom) in Istanbul, Tarar emphasized the need for fairness, sustainability, and transparency in AI applications.
The summit, themed "AI in Communication: Trends, Traps, and Transition," brought together global leaders to discuss AI's transformative role in communication and strategy. Tarar participated in a high-profile panel titled "AI in National Strategy: Governmental Perspectives on Digital Transformation and Strategic Communication," alongside ministers from Gabon, Lebanon, Serbia, and Togo.
During his remarks, Tarar outlined Pakistan’s commitment to leveraging AI responsibly, introducing the nation’s Digital Pakistan Vision as a blueprint for digital transformation. He announced plans to provide IT training to one million students by 2025 to prepare them for emerging AI technologies. He also highlighted the Pakistan Digital Dialogue project, which uses generative AI to enhance strategic communication through public feedback analysis.
Tarar stressed the vast potential of AI in sectors like agriculture, healthcare, education, governance, and finance, while warning of its misuse. "While promoting AI investment, we must prioritize addressing the risks of misinformation," he stated, referencing AI's role in spreading disinformation during global crises, including the censorship of topics related to Gaza and Kashmir.
The summit, organized by Turkey's Presidential Communications Directorate, concludes today, fostering global dialogue on ethical AI integration in strategic communication.
