Washington, D.C., USA – December 11, 2024:

Tesla has once again claimed the top spot in the 2024 Made in America Auto Index, a consumer research tool designed to highlight the American-made content of vehicles sold in the U.S.

The index, compiled by American University’s Kogod School of Business, ranks vehicles based on factors such as manufacturer profit margins, labor, research and development, inventory, engine, transmission, and body/chassis. Tesla’s Model 3 Performance secured the number one position, followed closely by the Model Y and Cybertruck. Ford Mustang GT models and Honda Passport models rounded out the top six.

The 2024 index comes at a pivotal time for the global automotive industry, as shifting trade policies and the rise of electric vehicles are reshaping the manufacturing landscape. While traditional American automakers have long dominated the industry, foreign manufacturers like Tesla, Honda, and Toyota have made significant inroads into the U.S. market, increasing their domestic sourcing and production.

“The automotive industry is undergoing a transformative period,” said Professor Frank DuBois, the creator of the Made in America Auto Index. “Changes in international trade agreements and the growing emphasis on electric vehicles are driving manufacturers to rethink their supply chains and sourcing strategies. We expect to see significant shifts in the coming years, as companies strive to balance global competitiveness with domestic production.”

The Made in America Auto Index provides valuable insights for consumers seeking to support American manufacturing and make informed purchasing decisions. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, the index will remain a crucial tool for tracking the changing landscape of domestic production.
