Amsterdam, Netherlands --- January 9, 2025:

The Dutch government announced on Thursday that it has reached a significant agreement with tech giant Nvidia to secure the hardware and technological expertise necessary for the development of a potential artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputer facility in the Netherlands. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance Europe’s digital economy and position the continent at the forefront of AI research and development.

Economy Minister Dirk Beljaarts expressed confidence that the partnership with Nvidia dramatically increases the chances of successfully establishing the facility. "Competition is fierce, the whole world is after this technology," Beljaarts said after meeting with Nvidia executives in Silicon Valley. "This deal brings building a Dutch AI facility a lot closer." However, he did not provide specific details regarding the timeline or exact location of the facility.

The Dutch government has already allocated 204.5 million euros (approximately $210 million) for AI investments, with plans to utilize additional European Union subsidies to further support the project. The proposed AI supercomputer would not only serve as a catalyst for innovation but also contribute to the EU's broader strategy to boost its digital economy and technological infrastructure.

Nvidia, renowned for its cutting-edge graphics processing units (GPUs), is a critical player in the development of AI technologies, particularly in areas such as machine learning, data analysis, and computational power. The company’s expertise and technology will play a pivotal role in powering the infrastructure for the planned AI facility.

The agreement comes at a time of growing global competition for AI leadership, with several countries vying to establish themselves as hubs for AI innovation. By securing Nvidia’s involvement, the Netherlands aims to create a world-class AI research environment that will attract talent, foster technological advancements, and contribute to Europe's AI ecosystem.
