Toronto, Canada — February 24, 2025:
A growing number of Canadians are rallying behind a petition urging Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to strip Elon Musk of his Canadian citizenship. The petition, launched by British Columbia resident Qualia Reed and supported by NDP MP Charlie Angus, argues that Musk's actions have been detrimental to Canada's national interests, reads a DAWN post.
The petition claims that Musk, a prominent figure with ties to former US President Donald Trump, has leveraged his wealth and influence to meddle in Canadian elections. It further accuses Musk of being a member of a foreign government actively seeking to undermine Canada's sovereignty.
The petition calls for the immediate revocation of Musk's dual citizenship status and his Canadian passport, citing national security concerns. Over 52,100 Canadians have signed it, and the petition is set to be presented to the House of Commons when it closes on June 20.
At present, there is no indication that the Canadian government is considering any action to revoke Musk's citizenship. Musk, born in South Africa, holds Canadian citizenship through his mother, who was born in Saskatchewan. While the petition continues to gain momentum, it remains unclear whether the government will take any steps in response.
