Bozeman, Montana, USA — February 21, 2025:
David Hall, the inventor of lidar technology used in mapping and autonomous vehicles, has officially launched Hall Lidar Inc. (HLi) in Bozeman, Montana. Hall, whose pioneering work has revolutionized the lidar sector, is committed to delivering high-quality lidar solutions to meet the growing demand, particularly in the automotive industry.
As he sees tremendous potential in combining lidar technology with advancements in AI, Hall stated, "Lidar can significantly improve vehicle safety, especially in ADAS systems, reducing pedestrian and cyclist fatalities. We're just beginning to realize its full potential in the automotive industry."
Hall Lidar Inc. will operate from a central office in Bozeman, with key testing and operational facilities in Alameda, California. These facilities will be essential for validating the accuracy and effectiveness of ADAS-related technologies, particularly vehicle braking systems. Hall plans to employ a team of engineers at the Alameda site to ensure optimal performance.
HLi will offer state-of-the-art lidar products, focusing on the automotive market for autonomous vehicles and ADAS, as well as other industries like robotics, architectural mapping, and smart city development. With the lidar market projected to reach over $16 billion by 2034, Hall Lidar Inc. is well-positioned to capture significant market share.
While ADAS systems have already transformed vehicle safety through features like lane departure warnings and adaptive cruise control, Hall believes there is still room for significant improvements. He notes that lidar's ability to detect objects in low-light conditions, challenging weather, and at long distances will be critical in enhancing safety features that could save lives by allowing vehicles to react faster and avoid accidents.
With increasing demand from developers of autonomous car systems and companies adopting ADAS, Hall Lidar Inc. is set to play a pivotal role in advancing vehicle safety, robotics, and other lidar-driven applications.
