Bangladesh is stepping into a new era of drug discovery, thanks to recent advances in chemical, biological, and clinical research, according to speakers at a seminar held by Bangladesh University's Department of Pharmacy.
The event, titled Drug Discovery and Drug Repurposing Based on Chemical, Biological and Clinical Research, featured a keynote address by Professor Dr. S. M. Abdur Rahman, Director of Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacology, and Biomedical Research at Dhaka University.
The seminar was attended by the chief guest, Brig. General (retd) Md. Mahbubul Haque, Registrar of Bangladesh University, along with Professor Abul Kalam Azad, Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy.
Dr. Abdur Rahman discussed the groundbreaking research efforts that are transforming the process of drug discovery and repurposing. He emphasized the innovative fusion of chemical, biological, and clinical research, which is not only accelerating the development of more effective and safer drugs but is also expanding treatment options for various diseases.
He explained, "The combination of these advanced research methods is revolutionizing drug development, allowing us to develop treatments for genetic, viral, and infectious diseases more efficiently. We are also exploring the potential of repurposing existing drugs for new uses, which could offer significant health benefits."
The seminar highlighted the importance of this initiative in shaping the future of Bangladesh's health sector and boosting the country's global standing in scientific research.
