Dubai, UAE — February 26, 2025:
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that, effective March 1, the minimum top-up amount for Nol cards at ticket vending machines in Dubai Metro stations will increase to Dh20. This marks a significant change from the previous minimum of Dh5, signaling the RTA’s continued efforts to streamline its services and ensure the sustainability of the city's public transport system, reports KT.
This adjustment aligns with a previous change in 2024, when the minimum top-up amount at metro ticket offices was raised from Dh20 to Dh50. For commuters, the required minimum balance for metro travel remains at Dh7.5.
Nol cards, which come in four different types—silver, gold, personal cards, and the red ticket pass—are widely used by residents and visitors for a variety of transport and non-transport services. These include payments for e-scooters and purchases at certain supermarkets and restaurants.
The RTA also offers the ability for users to personalize their cards, with added benefits such as earning reward points and securing the cards in case of loss. These moves are part of Dubai's broader push for a cashless, efficient commuting experience, further supported by its plans to expand Nol card functionality for residents and visitors alike.
