Seoul, South Korea — February 18, 2025:
Hyundai Motor Company’s IONIQ 5 N has made a groundbreaking achievement, setting the fastest lap time by an electric vehicle (EV) at the 'Attack Tsukuba 2025' motorsport event, held on February 15 at the iconic Tsukuba Circuit in Japan.
Driven by renowned Japanese driver Nobuteru Taniguchi, the IONIQ 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec recorded a lap time of 57.446 seconds, outpacing the nearest EV competitor by nearly two seconds. Despite relying mainly on production components, including its motors, battery, and control electronics, the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec showed impressive power and control, securing the fastest EV lap at the challenging circuit.
Taniguchi, who also broke his previous EV record, praised the car’s performance, noting its excellent handling, braking, and stability. "The IONIQ 5 N TA Spec stops well and handles excellently. The control is outstanding, with great cornering and smooth, stable corner-exit," he said.
The IONIQ 5 N TA Spec, a motorsport variant of Hyundai's award-winning IONIQ 5 N, previously won the 2024 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, further proving its capability in competitive events. This car has been enhanced with a power boost to 687 PS, advanced shock absorbers, motorsport-grade brakes, and an aerodynamic package for added performance.
Hyundai's victory at Tsukuba highlights its advanced EV technologies and strengthens the brand's presence in Japan’s growing EV market. "This record is a testament to Hyundai's commitment to pushing the boundaries of EV performance," said Joon Park, Head of N Management Group.
