In a night that celebrated civic engagement and philanthropy, Morehouse College awarded John Hope Bryant, the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Operation HOPE, the esteemed "Candle Award" at its 37th Annual "A Candle in the Dark" Gala. The event, held at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta, highlighted Bryant’s decades-long dedication to entrepreneurship and community empowerment.

The gala, one of the country’s premier celebrations of African American excellence, raised an impressive $6.8 million to support Morehouse College scholarships, continuing the institution’s mission to develop leaders who will shape the future. Bryant, a bestselling author and financial literacy advocate, has made a significant impact as the founder of The Promise Homes Company and the leader of Operation HOPE, the nation’s largest nonprofit focused on financial literacy and economic inclusion.

Morehouse College recognized Bryant for his efforts in transforming underserved communities, particularly in metro Atlanta. The prestigious Candle Award honors individuals who exemplify leadership, professional excellence, and a commitment to community service—values deeply rooted in Morehouse’s legacy.

Bryant, who has long championed education and social change, reinforced his commitment to Morehouse by announcing a $100,000 personal donation to support students from underserved backgrounds pursuing degrees in finance, business, and entrepreneurship.

“Financial literacy, education, and community engagement are at the core of Morehouse College’s storied history, making this recognition a profound honor,” Bryant said during his acceptance speech. “I am proud to continue advancing this mission and championing financial empowerment for future generations.”
