Ontario, California, USA — February 14, 2025:
Ontario International Airport (ONT) achieved a major milestone on Thursday with Volaris’ announcement of 14 new weekly flights to three popular destinations in Mexico. This marks the airport’s largest single-day expansion of international service to date, reinforcing its position as Southern California’s newest global gateway.
Volaris, currently offering twice-daily flights between ONT and Guadalajara, will introduce nonstop service to Los Cabos, León/Bajío, and Morelia. The new flights to Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) and León/Bajío International Airport (BJX) will commence July 4, 2025, with the Morelia route following on July 5. The Ontario-to-BJX route will run three times per week, and the ONT-MLM service will operate four times a week.
“Today’s announcement represents the largest single-day expansion of international service in the history of our airport," said Alan D. Wapner, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority. "It’s a testament to our decade-long partnership with Volaris, connecting Southern California and key Latin American markets."
Volaris’ commitment to expanding travel options highlights its focus on offering affordable, comfortable, and accessible air travel. Holger Blankenstein, Executive Vice President of Volaris, expressed excitement about the new routes, noting that the expansion would enhance travel opportunities for customers both within and outside of Mexico.
The new flights will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft, featuring 186 seats, departing from Terminal 2 and arriving at the ONT International Arrivals Terminal. This expansion follows the record-breaking growth in international travelers at ONT in 2024, with a 5.1% increase to 438,896 passengers.
With this addition, Volaris will operate 28 weekly flights from Ontario International Airport, solidifying its role in enhancing international connectivity for the LA region.
