University Park, USA, February 18, 2025:
Penn State has partnered with IBM to develop MyResource, an AI-powered virtual assistant designed to improve student access to essential campus services. Built using IBM’s watsonx technology, the system aims to streamline information on academic advising, financial aid, health services, and more.
The initiative was inspired by student feedback and a university-led analysis, both highlighting the need for better access to campus resources. Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi emphasized that this project aligns with the university’s mission to foster student success, improve retention, and create a more inclusive experience.
"MyResource will allow our students to navigate our institution seamlessly and intuitively," Bendapudi stated.
IBM consultants and AI experts are developing MyResource using watsonx Assistant and watsonx Discovery, ensuring real-time, accurate, and secure assistance. The system will also incorporate AI safeguards to detect and filter sensitive data.
IBM General Manager, Public Sector Frank Attaie expressed excitement over the collaboration, noting that the AI-powered tool will "unlock new possibilities for Penn State students" by providing faster, more efficient access to vital resources.
The project is set to launch in fall 2025, with plans for IBM to expand the solution to other higher education institutions across the United States.
