Jakarta, Indonesia — February 28, 2025:

President Prabowo Subianto officially launched the Pegadaian Gold Bank Service and Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) on February 27, 2025, marking a major milestone for Indonesia’s financial landscape. The Gold Bank initiative is part of Pegadaian, a subsidiary of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), and a key player in the Ultra Micro Holding group, which includes Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), said a press release.

In a ceremony symbolic of the new venture, President Prabowo placed a gold bar into a treasure box, announcing, "I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby inaugurate the Pegadaian Gold Bank Service and Bank Syariah Indonesia." The establishment of the Gold Bank is expected to significantly impact Indonesia's economy by contributing approximately IDR 245 trillion to the national GDP and creating 1.8 million new jobs, while also helping to strengthen the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

The inauguration was attended by key leaders, including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, and Governor of Bank Indonesia Perry Warjiyo. They all highlighted the Gold Bank's potential to play a key role in enhancing Indonesia's financial stability and prosperity.

Minister Erick Thohir shared insights into the Gold Bank’s goals, explaining that it aims to unlock the potential of the 1,800 tons of gold owned by the public. BRI President Director Sunarso expressed his commitment to the success of the program, stating, “As the parent company of Ultra Micro Holding, BRI is fully committed to ensuring the success of the Gold Bank initiative.”

Pegadaian’s President Director, Damar Latri Setiawan, also expressed optimism, noting that the Gold Bank could accelerate Indonesia's economic growth and align with the Asta Cita vision, which seeks to modernize the nation’s economy.

As of 2024, Pegadaian has managed 90 tons of gold, with a 35% increase in sales from the previous year, amounting to 9 tons. Additionally, BRI’s Gold Investment feature on the BRImo app, launched in early 2024, saw transactions totaling IDR 279.8 billion by December.

Through the launch of Pegadaian Gold Bank, BRI Group aims to provide greater access to gold investments, positioning Indonesia for enhanced economic acceleration and a more secure financial future.
