Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University (BU) for a four-year term. The appointment was made by the university's President and Chancellor, Mohammed Shahabuddin, and formally announced on Wednesday by the Ministry of Education through a notification.
This appointment aligns with Section 31 (1) of the Private Universities Act, 2010.
Professor Alam, a distinguished academic with a distinguished career, brings a wealth of experience to this esteemed position. Prior to his appointment, he served as a professor at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, where he held key administrative roles including Dean, Principal, and Director.
A renowned researcher, Professor Alam is a recipient of the National Award for his outstanding contributions to the field of research. He has authored a significant body of scholarly work, with over 103 research articles published in both national and international journals.
Professor Alam's career began at the Department of Fisheries in 1983, followed by his tenure at the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute where he served as Chief Scientific Officer for approximately 27 years.
