Thimphu, Bhutan — February 14, 2025:

Starlink, the satellite internet service by SpaceX, has officially launched in Bhutan, marking a significant step in expanding high-speed internet access across South Asia. The service is designed to cater to the needs of residents and businesses in areas where traditional broadband infrastructure is limited or unavailable, reads a Pinnacle Gazette post.

To serve a wide range of customers, Starlink is offering several pricing plans. The Residential Lite Plan, priced at 3,000 BTN per month, is ideal for households needing reliable internet for everyday use. For businesses and educational institutions, the Priority Plan offers enhanced speeds, ranging from 50 to 220 Mbps for downloads, and 8 to 25 Mbps for uploads. Prices for this plan start at 5,900 BTN for 40 GB of data, with options available for larger data packages up to 6 TB per month.

The Roam Plan, aimed at customers who need flexible access to the internet, offers download speeds of 30 to 100 Mbps and upload speeds of 5 to 25 Mbps. This plan provides both unlimited and limited data packages, starting at 4,200 BTN for 50 GB. Additionally, the Global Plan is available for international users, priced at 37,000 BTN. For mobile users, the Mobile Priority Plan offers flexible data packages, starting at 21,000 BTN, with speeds ranging from 5 to 220 Mbps.

While Bhutan is now enjoying the benefits of Starlink’s satellite internet service, there remains uncertainty regarding its availability in India. Regulatory hurdles have delayed its launch in the country, with the Indian government awaiting recommendations on the allocation of radio frequencies for satellite services.

Starlink's entry into Bhutan is a game changer for the region, particularly for rural areas that have long been underserved by traditional internet providers. Industry experts are optimistic that Starlink's ability to provide stable internet access in hard-to-reach locations could revolutionize digital connectivity, offering new opportunities for both businesses and consumers.
