Ankara, Turkiye — February 15, 2025:

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Friday that Turkiye’s homegrown electric vehicle maker, Togg, is exploring expansion opportunities in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Pakistan. Erdogan revealed that Pakistan has already expressed interest in producing Togg vehicles locally, highlighting the growing global reach of Turkiye’s electric vehicle sector.

During a press briefing on his return from a tour of these nations, Erdogan outlined the importance of introducing Togg to these new markets. "First, it’s crucial to introduce Togg in these countries. Then, we can explore the possibilities of production or joint investment opportunities. Pakistan has already brought up the idea of local production," he said.

As part of his diplomatic visit, Erdogan presented the Togg T10X, a battery-powered C-segment SUV, to the leaders of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Pakistan. The T10X, which was launched in 2023, is set to begin its exports to Europe soon. Erdogan emphasized the importance of strategically positioning Togg in international markets to maximize its export potential.

Togg plans to diversify its lineup by 2030, with four additional models in development: a fastback, a C-hatchback, a B-SUV, and a B-MPV. The fastback sedan, T10F, will open for pre-orders in April and is expected to hit the market by mid-2025. Additionally, Togg is developing the T8X B-SUV model, which may be unveiled later this year.

Currently, Togg’s production capacity stands at 100,000 vehicles annually, with future plans to expand to 175,000 units as its plant in Bursa reaches full capacity. The company aims to manufacture 1 million vehicles across its five models by 2030.

Alongside Togg’s efforts, Erdogan revealed that Turkiye is in talks with Chinese automotive giant Chery to build a new manufacturing plant in Samsun, located in the Black Sea region. This would mark Chery’s second investment in Turkiye, following BYD’s announcement of a $1 billion plant in Manisa. The BYD facility, focused on electric and hybrid vehicle production, is set to begin operations by the end of 2026 with a capacity of 150,000 vehicles annually.

Erdogan expressed confidence that Togg would become Turkiye’s flagship global brand, bolstered by the arrival of major Chinese companies like Chery and BYD. "We are witnessing how successful countries like China have been in the electric vehicle sector. Turkiye is positioning itself for success as well," Erdogan stated, also mentioning ongoing discussions with SAIC Motor, the parent company of MG Motor, to further enhance Turkiye’s automotive industry.

With these strategic moves, Turkiye is setting the stage for significant growth in the electric vehicle market, both domestically and internationally, with Togg leading the charge.
