Dhaka, Bangladesh – February 12, 2025:

A high-level World Bank delegation, led by Regional Vice President Mr. Martin Raiser and Country Director (Interim) Ms. Gayle Martin, visited the United International University (UIU) on Wednesday to explore the university's innovative initiatives.

The delegation toured the state-of-the-art Innovation Hub, a key component of UIU's commitment to fostering research and entrepreneurship.  They engaged in discussions with Prof. Dr. Abul Kashem Mia, Vice-Chancellor of UIU, and Prof. Abdullah Al-Mamun, Director of the Institute of Research, Innovation, Incubation & Commercialisation (IRIIC), focusing on the current state of tech entrepreneurship in Bangladesh and the potential for translating research into commercial ventures.

The visit also included an interaction with students and mentors from "Launchpad By UIHP@UIU," an innovation cohort supporting young startups.

The UIU Innovation Hub, established under the Bangladesh Hi-tech Park Authority's (BHTPA) University Innovation Hub Program (UIHP), serves as a vital platform for collaboration between industry and academia. IRIIC, a flagship initiative of the hub, is home to cutting-edge research projects, including those focused on neuromarketing, Bangla Medical GPT, and applications for screening diseases such as endometriosis, breast cancer, and Alzheimer's.

This visit signifies the World Bank's recognition of UIU's role in fostering innovation and driving economic growth in Bangladesh.
