YouTube has rolled out a major upgrade to its Dream Screen feature, enabling creators to generate AI-powered video clips for Shorts using simple text prompts. This expansion is powered by Google DeepMind’s latest video generation model, Veo 2, marking a significant leap in AI-driven content creation.
Originally launched in September 2023, Dream Screen allowed users to create AI-generated backgrounds for Shorts. With the latest enhancement, users can now generate entire video clips tailored to their creative needs, reducing reliance on stock footage and additional scene recordings.
Veo 2 enhances realism and efficiency, allowing users to customize AI-generated clips with specific styles, cinematic effects, and lens variations. YouTube claims the model better understands real-world physics and human movement, leading to more detailed and natural-looking visuals.
To ensure transparency and combat misinformation, YouTube will apply SynthID watermarks and visual labels to all AI-generated content. Developed by Google DeepMind, these digital watermarks are undetectable to the human eye but allow AI-generated videos to be identified.
The upgraded Dream Screen feature is currently available in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with plans for wider global access in the near future.
