In a significant step toward enhancing connectivity in Bangladesh, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has formally invited Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, to visit the country and launch the Starlink satellite internet service. The invitation, extended in a letter on February 19, underscores the potential of Starlink to revolutionize internet access, particularly in underserved and remote areas of Bangladesh.
In his letter, Yunus highlighted how Starlink’s advanced satellite technology could provide life-changing connectivity for Bangladesh’s youth, rural communities, and vulnerable women, offering them new opportunities for education, entrepreneurship, and growth. "Integrating Starlink’s connectivity into Bangladesh’s infrastructure will have a transformational impact," Yunus wrote, emphasizing its role in bridging the digital divide.
Yunus also pointed out that the collaboration would support mutual efforts for a brighter future, inviting Musk to meet with the enterprising young people of Bangladesh who stand to benefit most from the project. His Deputy Press Secretary, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, quoted Yunus’ call to work together in achieving shared goals for societal advancement.
In addition, Yunus tasked Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the High Representative for Bangladesh, with coordinating with SpaceX to ensure that all necessary preparations are in place for the launch within the next 90 working days. This follows a detailed phone discussion on February 13 between Yunus and Musk, where they explored potential avenues for collaboration and outlined steps toward bringing Starlink’s satellite internet service to Bangladesh.
The introduction of Starlink in Bangladesh is expected to significantly boost access to reliable internet, making technology more accessible to millions of people across the country.
