Dhaka, Bangladesh – March 9, 2025:

Bangladesh has partnered with US-based satellite internet provider Starlink to establish ground stations, aiming to improve nationwide connectivity, particularly in underserved regions, reads a UNB online report.

Several Bangladeshi firms have signed agreements with Starlink to support infrastructure development, including space allocation, construction, and ongoing maintenance. A team from the US telecommunications provider is currently visiting Bangladesh to assess potential locations.

According to Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, discussions are underway regarding suitable sites for the ground stations. Some firms have offered their own properties, while Starlink is also considering the Hitech Park property.

Taiyeb emphasized that Starlink’s service would bring high-speed internet to both urban centers and remote locations, ensuring uninterrupted access unaffected by power outages or natural disasters.

“It will guarantee seamless, high-quality service. Since telecom-grade fiber network coverage in Bangladesh is limited, and rural areas still face power disruptions, Starlink will accelerate digital activities for entrepreneurs, freelancers, NGOs, and small businesses,” he said.

The Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary highlighted the importance of Starlink’s entry, stating that efforts would continue over the next 90 days to implement a viable partnership model.

To strengthen collaboration, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has invited SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to visit Bangladesh. In a letter dated February 19, Yunus stressed that Musk’s visit would provide an opportunity to engage with young Bangladeshis who would greatly benefit from advanced satellite technology.

To fast-track the project, Yunus has instructed his High Representative, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, to coordinate closely with SpaceX and ensure all preparations for Starlink’s launch are completed within the next ninety working days.

On February 13, Yunus held a detailed phone discussion with Musk about expanding cooperation and advancing Starlink’s satellite internet service in Bangladesh.

The partnership marks a crucial step in Bangladesh’s digital transformation, promising enhanced internet access for businesses, educational institutions, and remote communities.
