Houston, USA — March 15, 2025:

In response to an elevated wildfire risk, CenterPoint Energy has implemented immediate precautionary measures to protect communities and customers across the Greater Houston area. The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning, effective from noon until 9 p.m. on March 15, 2025, due to high winds, dry conditions, and low humidity, further heightening the risk of wildfires.

CenterPoint Energy has proactively prepared for these hazardous conditions by conducting thorough pre-inspections of electric and natural gas equipment. Additionally, the company has cleared hazardous vegetation near power lines and adjusted safety settings in high-risk areas to mitigate potential fire hazards. The company also has approximately 1,000 workers, including line and vegetation crews, ready to respond quickly to any evolving weather conditions.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and have taken key actions to ensure the safety of our customers,” said Don Daigler, Senior Vice President of Emergency Planning & Response at CenterPoint Energy. “We have completed critical safety measures and will continue to inform our customers and work diligently to keep them safe.”

Over the past 24 hours, CenterPoint Energy has alerted approximately 330,000 customers in the Cypress, Fort Bend, and Katy areas about the increased wildfire risks. These customers were notified of the potential for temporary safety-related outages due to extreme weather conditions. The company stressed the importance of staying informed and prepared, as fire weather conditions have been rapidly intensifying throughout the region.

As part of its preparedness efforts, CenterPoint Energy has focused on inspecting power lines in high-risk areas and clearing vegetation that could pose a fire hazard. Additionally, the company has adjusted certain power line safety settings and pre-positioned additional crews to respond quickly to any service disruptions. Crews and contractors are standing by, ready to restore power safely and efficiently if needed.

In addition to these actions, CenterPoint Energy has been in close coordination with local and state emergency agencies to ensure a unified response. The company has emphasized its commitment to keeping customers informed throughout this period and encourages everyone to stay vigilant as the situation continues to develop.
