Meudon, France — March 17, 2025:

EOLO has partnered with Thales to expand high-speed internet access in Italy through Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), supporting the EU’s goal of universal gigabit broadband by 2030. FWA, which delivers fast internet to areas without fiber or copper networks, is a key solution for closing the digital divide and promoting economic growth in rural and underserved regions.

As Italy’s leading FWA provider, EOLO already serves over 700,000 households with speeds of up to 300 Mbps. The company plans to launch a Gigabit FWA service in 2025, integrating 5G and millimeter wave (mmWave) technologies. This initiative will involve deploying a new 5G antenna network and installing thousands of eSIM-enabled terminal devices to enhance connectivity across Italy.

Thales will support this expansion by providing its On-Demand Subscription Manager (OSM) platform, which enables EOLO’s 5G routers to be pre-configured with mobile subscriptions. This technology simplifies installation, allowing users to activate their devices instantly by powering them on.

“The infrastructure we are building together will complement Italy’s fiber network and support the country’s digital transformation,” said Guido Garrone, CEO of EOLO. “Gigabit connectivity will help citizens and businesses overcome the digital and speed divides, in line with European and national goals.”

Eva Rudin, Vice President of Mobile Connectivity Solutions at Thales, highlighted the project’s impact: “Reliable, secure connectivity is essential for digital transformation. By equipping EOLO with advanced eSIM technology, we are accelerating broadband deployment and helping to bridge the digital divide across Europe.”

Thales, a global leader in digital technology, invests over €4 billion annually in research and development across AI, cybersecurity, quantum computing, and cloud technology. The company employs over 83,000 people across 68 countries, generating €20.6 billion in revenue in 2024.
